This is a brewery many years in the making. In 2012 after many years of waiting on the sidelines of the craft beer market, Darren & Zoe Wanless reached out to former Two Rivers and Fort Garry President Doug Saville and asked him who would be the best choice for a brewmaster. Without hesitation he said Bernhard Wieland.
Since their initial meeting, schedules haven't aligned, other projects were under development but finally the timing was right for them to create a brewery together. The brewery and taproom will focus on Manitoba's brewing history, and will incorporate local products and services whenever possible.
Bernhard has helped launch two local breweries in recent years, worked at two others and has developed many successful beer recipes for them. Now Bernhard would like to share in the success and create a brewery he can have ownership in.
Born and raised in Manitoba, Bernhard has studied his Bachelor of Science at
U of M, received his brewmaster certificate at the Siebel Institute in Chicago, and his masters at UC Davis. He has worked in breweries in Germany, British Columbia and of course Manitoba during his career and education.
Darren Wanless is owner of WGPS.ca, a surveying and consulting company. He has been a craft beer lover for over 20 years and has been studying the industry since. In 2015 Darren sat on the Manitoba Craft Breweries advisory council to help identify obstacles and explore new opportunities for Manitoba-based craft brewing.
Zoe Wanless has been assisting Darren with their business for the past 14 years. Prior to that she was a Director of fund development in the non-profit sector and also spent a number of years in the telecommunications industry. She has been working hard to get this new endeavor off the ground and looks forward to building a brewery and becoming part of the growing Craft Beer community.
